To accompany the zines I making for Bebe Pies i made a new website! You can find more about the Camino de Santiago at www.bebepies.com
Zine Machine!
It’s done! I photocopied, folded and stapled Pat1. of ‘Bebe Pies Absolute Ultimate Adventure…with her mom’. Woo Hoo! I am very excited to get the zine to some readers. Sent off a couple submissions to zine distros. The zine tells the tale of doing the Camino de Santiago with my mom last spring.
It was an adventure to be sure! Being the nerd that i am, i made a little zine trailer for Bebe Pies! The music featured in the background is Christopher Owens. The song is ‘Lysandre’s Theme’. If you are interested in getting a copy of Bebe Pies you can email bebepies@gmail.com
One of my Favourite Party Tips
Creative Date Sunday = Documentary Sunday
This past weekend there was a bit of a snowstorm where i am. It was a day to stay indoors and cuddle. To pass the time, the bf and I had a documentary filmathon. This celebration of the documentary continued on into Tuesday evening. I thought I would share with you some of the amazing films we devoured during the snowstorm.
The Imposter – Truth is definitely stranger than fiction. Don’t believe me? Watch this film. It grabs your attention in 5 mins. and does not let go.
How To Survive A Plague – Nominated for an Oscar in the best Documentary category, How To Survive The Plague tells the story of ACTUP and there fight against the AIDS epidemic.
When A Tree Falls – An examination of The Earth Liberation Movement and their methods of activism. The film follows one former member who is about to go to court on charges of terrorism.
Hipster Slang from the Past!
I have been thinking a lot about the language I use when on social media. It seems as though I rely too often on “awesome” and “great!!”. It is sad. I can do better. Today I wrote a post for Gumshoe Blog about my need for a wider vocabulary. This need turned into a strong interest for the slang of the past. You can read my post here!
Side note: for an interesting discussion on the term ‘hipster’ check out this Idea Channel video! For the record, I believe hipster should be reclaimed back to its originally meaning – someone who is in the know. When used in a derogatory fashion, I believe that people are really referring to scenesters when they say hipster.
Creative Sunday Dates – Illustrations!
Yesterday I mentioned how i have almost completed issue 1 of my zine about the Camino de Santiago. Well, the creative date this pst Sunday was spent doing some illustrations for said zine.
I am no artist. I can only do the most basic of illustrations. For the slightly more complex drawings (like the one above) i had to get help from the bf. I guess our Creative Sunday date was a little selfish on my part since it benefits my zine….but he was excited to contribute to the project.
In the end the project is a combination of photos i took while on the camino and some illustrations of memories from the journey.
Travel Tuesday – Remembering the Camino
Last week I discussed how I was attempting to deal with my wanderlust. So far my trick is working.
A year ago I was training for the Camino de Santiago. By training I mean walking everyday. I figured that would be good preparation. I went on the Camino de Santiago with my mom last spring. This past fall and winter I have been writing my memories of the trip. This past week I completed Part 1 and 2 of a zine that will tell the tale of the journey my mom and I took together. I now just have to go to the photocopiers to make and then fold issue one together. I am very excited to send a copy to my mom. As soon as I have copies ready to snail mail I will do a post about how i can send a copy to anyone who might be interested in a story of the Camino de Santiago and moms. My mom and I kept a collective journal on our trip – wrote in it everyday – it was great to revisit our thoughts while we were on the camino with the hindsight i have now. That is the beauty of travel. You not only receives lessons while on the journey, you keep learning long after the journey has ended.
Lending Library – The Where, The Why and The How
I have been wanting to read The Where, The Why and The How for about a year now. Finally, my library got a copy and quickly took the book out. Originally i was interested in seeing the book so that i could peruse of the art work the book featured….but all it took was the introduction for my focus to shifted to the words.
The Where, The Why and The How features a different science question on each page. Each question is accompanied by an original illustration. Each illustration is done by a different artist. You can imagine the fun it is just to skim through the book and admire the art work. The real brilliance of the book is the questions that are asked and answered. Many of the questions are ones that do not have complete answers. Many if questions still are a mystery in the scientific world. Why is this so powerful? Because it reminds the reader to use creative thinking. You start to think of what the answer may be.
The Where, The Why, The How is classified as a Young Adult book – but it really is a book for everyone.
First Date Friday – Andy of Cougar Town
He loves his best friend and is loyal and loving to his lady. He loves to dance and is super cuddly. Ladies and Gentlemen, I present Andy from TBS’s Cougar Town as your First Date Friday man.
Where: Florida on a patio.
What: Drinking a little wine and dancing!
What to Wear on Top: A wrap dress. I am a huge fan of wrap dresses. Huge! They are comfortable and sophisticated sexy. A wrap dress is perfect for dancing because it is not very constrictive. The gorgeous one above is available at ASOS. The coral colour is perfect for Florida!
What to Wear Accessories: A simple gold necklace. The one above is available at Modcloth!
What to Wear on Feet: A neutral heel. I like a nice stripy heel for dancing…it keeps my shoe on my foot. The Ferragamo ones pictured above are available at Zappos!
I have to admit, that coral dress is making me wish for spring!
Creative Sunday Dates – Date Three
Date Three of Creative Sunday Dates turned into a project for Gumshoe Blog. Both myself and my bf worked on articles that were to be featured this week on the blog. My bf spent much of the day listening to the new My Bloody Valentine on repeat because that was the topic of his post.
It was fun! We discussed how great it was to have an album released to everyone at the same time. No press coverage of what the album would sound like, or if it was good. You could listen to the album without any preconceived notions or opinions. The opinion you make on the album would be all your own. If you would like to read the post, it can be found here!
There is something so uplifting about working on a project collaboratively. I think this is one of the best parts of the Creative Sunday dates! You both work on a project together and encourage each others creativity.
